The hiking trip starts at the mountain hut “Sveti Jakov” on the Vrdovo plateau. You can access to the hut with every type of vehicle. The shortest access to the hut is from the place Rumina located on the regional road Sinj-Vrlika. In the village Hrvace, on the intersection with the road to Zelovo, you should turn right and drive over the bridge in the small village of Panj and Bitelić. When you pass those settlements, the ride continues on the serpentines uphill until you reach the plateau. The road is mostly paved until you reach the plateau, but it is recommended only for normal-sized vehicles due to the narrow pavement and sharp turns. From the beginning of the plateau to the hut you have an excellent macadam road in length of 4.7 kilometers. On the plateau, you will come to the crossroad that leads to other two huts, Vrdovo and Moj mir. There you should continue straight and follow signposts for mountain hut Sveti Jakov, which is the starting point of this hiking trip.
Behind the hut there are signposts. One of them points to Mali Maglaj(Maglaj on singpost). The trail leads slowly uphill, along the karst bear hill. After 1.6 km., you will come to a crossroads of hiking trails and according to the signpost, you should continue straight towards Mali Maglaj, on macadam road. About 200 meters from this signpost there is the second one that is directing you to go right towards Mali Maglaj. Further, the trail leads along the karst bear hill, beside a series of sinkholes and abandoned meadows, slightly climbing.
The trail crosses through Mali Maglaj, descends losing a little of reached altitude than climbs slightly to the top. The trail is well marked and easy to navigate. With every meter climbed, you can experience more and more of unforgettable sights, which makes this trip so attractive.
The peak is marked with a pile of stones and with a dray log stuck in it. Inscription on it says “Maglaj” but is not very visible. In the time of the Croatian civil war, it was a strategic point, so now you can still see bunkers and many other defensive forts. There are no registration box or mountaineering stamp. If you want to make a memory, you need to take a picture.
From the top, you can gaze at mountains of Kamešnica, Bikovo, Mosor, Svilaja, peaks of Dinara, Cincar, Vran, and Čvrsnica. Also, you can see some of the near islands. You can see the whole region of Cetina, the town of Sinj and the plateau Vrdovo.
